Click on the links below for videos from the early days of VoxHead:
The earliest prototype (using electric loudspeaker as voicing source)
Close up of earliest prototype
Second prototype - cycling between three vowels (using air based voicing source)
Demo of the air-based voicing source - manually controlled air pressure in this example.
The second prototype had 5 degrees of freedom controlling vocal tract shape, plus two more (in theory) for lip rounding and nasalization.
A photo of air-based system (mounted on the end of a microphone stand). Motors actuated the tract remotely through bowdin cables so that the noise of the motors could be better muffled for audio recording.
With mechanical arm and binocular vision for shared attention and interaction studies (split off into a separate project)
